And so to Wheatley Park

Notorious home of the hitmen

Where cricket replaces the Civil War

Every now and then

Spam and Gary strode out to the middle

With the greatest of intent

But our fair skipper threw his bat to the ground

Goldenchild run out; he went

Boycott dawdled up to the crease

Intent on steadying the ship

But our captain was caught behind the stumps

We hoped the fall of wickets was a blip

But Spellcaster followed leg before

Making it twenty-six for three

A lot of hopes thus were pinned

On the Ant and Stevie D

These two dug in their heels

For a stand of nearly fifty

Some might even say

That some of the footwork was nifty

Cobner was caught for a useful twenty-two

But the Aussie was standing his ground

Playing his shots for forty-six

He nearly had to buy a round

Barry L. Ocker utilizing his famous… block.

A Mann top scored

In a wise and wistful innings

Many even forgot

His criminal ancestral beginnings

When the Ant fell just short of a fifty

The MAD innings began to fade

Wood Boy was stumped for three

Davros; one was all he made

Del Boy chipped in with a promising eight

Beer Matt unlucky to be bowled for a duck

Wed reached a hundred and fourteen for nine

We would be needing some luck

It was left to Iron Hands and Stan

To see out the last few balls

Both remained unbeaten

Average protection calls?

Who exactly is the “son”? And has he ever played cricket?

Tea arrived by meals on wheels

A lovely spread of sandwiches and cake

As the weather held above

The MAD reflected on their fate

Darley steamed in for the first over

The opener got a nick

The whole of the MAD appealed

But he didnt walk; we felt so sick

With the openers getting to twenty

They looked as if they might get away

But a combination of Hoskers and Morlers

Made sure Faradoon wouldnt stay

Another expansive Barry L. Ocker cover drive….

The innings progressed along

But Khan was caught for nine

Waseem would follow trapped by Mann

Only R Rana would shine

Few more of the opposition

Would trouble the scorers

The scent of MAD victory

Was truly before us

Contributions all round

Added to the haul

Skip finished it off

With a low straight ball

Thus we bowled R. T. Harris out

For only ninety-nine

Easing to a fifteen run win

Without the blood and wine

If ever there was a case for “joint” hogging of the match….

The victory was discussed

Back at the pub

Fines were dished out

Good for the club

Joint men of the match

The guys that wowed us all

Were Dobner and Mann

With bat and with ball

So the sun set on another Sunday

Cricket was the winner

A Morley was last seen struggling up Ladder Hill

As he cycled home for dinner
