Blewbury, strange one this, everyone gets two overs each and there are no LBW decisions. Played in a spirit where batsmen are trusted to walk if they get caught, also there are no wides, just three added to the total. As an umpire, so long as you can count to six, the job is yours.

I just don’t know about this one. Some in our team prefer not to play, as it isn’t much of a contest, but me, I’d rather be playing, especially on an evening as glorious as this one. No doubt Blewbury are struggling at the moment, they have a decent player who didn’t play on this occasion and a few who can swing the willow. Also come to think of it a couple of decent youngsters, so perhaps the future isn’t quite as bleak. They have a bar next to the ground, come on, what’s not to love. A lot of teams, including ours have been through barren periods, support them I say. I’m writing this with the hindsight of Tour, where we could have been smashed to bits by two league teams, but who chose not to and instead made a decent game of it. So, have some humility for this one game of the season.

Two wickets for Turner (2-0-10-2), when else does he get an opportunity like that, including a decent caught and bowled? He was catching up with Gary in the c&b race, but Gary (2-0-7-1) is already out of sight in that regard, adding one more to his tally this evening. Jake (2-0-10-1) bowled well and also scooped the Champagne with a run out, picking up MOTM as well. He could have had a rare hogging the game award, if Pops (2-0-18-0) hadn’t bowled so atrociously.

Stock footage of Turner bowling some pie.

Blewbury limped to 103 in their 20 overs. Skipper Shorten gave JMO a rare promotion up the order to number five. With retirements at thirty, he was certain to get a bat, or was he? No, he wasn’t, Joe and Lucan retired (both on 30*), before Russ (22*) and Jake (12*) recorded not outs. We only had 10 players, so does that count as a nine or a ten wicket win? History is written by the winners, so let’s say ten, the first time that’s happened since Spellcaster and Moo were calling the shots at Cholsey back in 2009.
