On
a resolutely overcast and soggy day, The MAD contrived to lose the toss and
lose the match. Bowling with wanton line and length, they watched agog as a
mixed SOSC team swatted their way to an imposing 169 all out. Amongst the
various buffet being served up, only M. Westmoreland covered himself in any
kind of glory returning figures of 3-13. A. Mann (2-23), D. Jones (2-37) and
S. Hebbes (2-34) chipped in with some useful wickets, but otherwise The MAD
bowling was largely forgettable.
A really hi-res image from the day. In reply, things began in less than
impressive fashion, with M. Westmoreland (1), J. Hotson (1), T. Mander (0)
and M. Bullock (9) all going cheaply to leave The MAD reeling on 36-4. Things
improved with debutant I. Howarth (37) finding a willing accomplice in B.
Mander (16), and the pair helped usher the score along to the lofty heights
of 77, before the former was pinned on the back foot giving teammate and [grinning]
umpire S. Dobner little alternative but to send him packing leg before. Hitherto late cameos from the tail [Lester
6, Mann 8, S. Hebbes 6, Hoskins 4 and Jones 5] gave The MAD score some
respectability, but in a match which could have gone
either way – it never really looked like going The MAD’s way. Hopefully
better to come next week? Some sunny weather would be nice too. ‘P. Articipant’
